If someone built a home made incubator and it caught a fire and damaged his house, Where does he legally stand for insurance cover, Would insurance companies reimburse him.
I live in Ireland so I don't know the laws in the USA, but in Ireland he will be lucky if they don't come after him for any damage caused outside his house.

I don't know, but that is a serious question. I know insurance pays for stupid stuff people do. Starting a fire by microwaving their socks for example. They pay people that build and lose houses in area at high risk for floods, fires, earthquakes and hurricanes. Given an opportunity insurance companies will fight some claims. Would insurance companies have a problem if my cheap incubator I ordered from China caught fire? Could the Chinese manufacturer be compelled to pay damages? If its not intentional, I think insurance would cover it in the USA. Maybe a lawyer or insurance agent could answer this question.

This is an interesting question, Every country has its own electric safety regulations, hopefully someone here who knows the answer will help

I was an insurance agent for years. Every company and state is different, but it should cover if that where to happen. So long as you used wires from the store, and a bulb you didn't make yourself etc... Putting an incubator together is nothing an insurance company would know about or try and disprove. If the fire department ruled it started at the incubator, they would cover all damage done by the fire, but not the incubator itself.

If it something your really worried about though contact your agent and ask. I would not call the company itself as they can make a note, and if the damages are a lot have something to try and deny your claim with(though i doubt they would).
