I made a homemade 'bator earlier today, Miss Prissy directions, I have everything set up, but I have a question about temps.

I used the hot water heater thermostat, not having fluctuations, at all.. But the temp is at 100*F. It has a fan. Is this close enough to the suggested 99.5*F?? I'm going to hatch goose eggs in it, I know they are hard to hatch already, will .5* mess anything up?

Thanks in advance

if it's at exactly 100 then I would add some eggs, the variance between thermometers would mean you could be 99-101, but 100 seems about as good as you can get, remember your heat source will be working harder to heat the eggs up as-well so the temps may not be as strong after you add those eggs, but you have to start sometime and it seems you are about as ready as you can be, good luck.

I can't say for sure, but I would think it would be fine, they may just hatch on day 19 or 20 instead of 21 (or what ever time goose eggs go for, LOL)

I'm going to let it sit over night, just tobe sure it isn't just luck that it is working great. I dont trust it quite yet for my precious eggies.

Goose eggs are 28-32 days

My Hova-bator Genesis is at around 99.6 at all times. It doesn't fluctuate at all. I've seen it go up to 99.7, but that's all. Other thermometers read higher / lower, depending on them, but my guaranteed accurate thermometer displays that.

I would like to say that 1 degree below or higher than 99.5 will cause late and early hatches, but nothing 0.5 of a degree either way. One degree higher will cause a hatch that is approximately 24 hours behind or in advance from 21 days.
