Homemade chicken coop under 350$

A lot of variables there- does it include a run? how many chickens? fixed or mobile? etc, etc. You might want to look at a the "Coops" link at the top for a bunch of ideas.

Hoop Coops should cost around 125$ to make. All you have to do is buy 3 cattle panels for 25 $ each, chicken wire to overlay the panels and ground for 20 $, 5 pieces of pressure treated wood to form a base and door for 25$. You can probably scrounge most of this stuff from past building experience or even craigslist to drop the price even further.

If you are just talking the coop you can build quite a nice one for under $350. (if you build it yourself). Mine is 6'x8'. I bought all the material at Lowes (minus the roof metal that was reused and the 4 windows I had donated). When I checked out the total was just under $300.00, Lowes had an additional 5% off if you spent 299.00 or more so I bought a few extra 2x4's to get to $299.00. For the 6'x8' it only takes 1 and 1/2 sheets of plywood to cover the floor, a bunch of 2x4's (couple bucks each). My walls are 7 foot tall, it took 2 sheets of smart side siding for the front, 2 for the back, and 3 more to cover the ends. When I built mine those were on sale for around $12.00 each. With basic carpentry knowledge you can build a nice coop, cheaper then the junk that is sold at most stores. A friend and I knocked mine out mostly in one day.

Here is a thread that shows some pics, there is not much too it really. It shows a few steps in the building process. The floor and floor joist are treated lumber, everything else is standard pine.
