After nearly buying a Brinsea, I decided to try a cheaper method for my first hatch. I was inspired by the homemade incubators and decided to give it a try. I was just so scared of the electrical part!

Here's what I bought:

Styrofoam cooler ($2)
25w light bulb 2pk. ($2)
Digital thermometer w/ humidity reading and probe ($12)
Water heater thermostat - lower ($9)
Cable ties ($1)
Bin things from the housewares section to make the turner ($1)

What I salvaged from home:

Old computer fan
A/C adapter from who knows what!
Light fixture from remodel
Plug from another light
Hardwire cloth
Paint roller extension handle
Small ceramic dish
Styrofoam egg carton
Plastic baggie with water
Duct tape
Electrical tape
Small piece of clear plastic from old bird feeder
Free eggs from a friend with a farm (my chicks should be speckled sussex/barred rock)

Total cost: $27 dollars and a couple hours of construction time

Not bad for my first attempt! Only time will tell....

Nice job, What is your plan for when the eggs hatch ? I would be worried the chicks would get wedged between the basket and the sides of the incubator.
