Homemade or Commercial?

Does anyone have any thoughts on homemade feed? I would like to save as much money on feed as I can, but still give my chicks all they need. Which is cheaper? more effective? more preservable?

If you can raise your own grains it might be less expensive. This site is pretty helpful. http://www.lionsgrip.com/recipes.html

Since price of commercial feed (unless locally produced) is effected by fuel costs, expect it to only go up as time passes...

There has been quite a bit of discussion about homemade feed here on BYC. There are probably pages and pages, if you do a search.....
