One of my favorite songs! I just aged myself. Oh wait, you did that.

I gave two adult silkies to a friend last summer. She brought them back after a week saying her adult hens, about 15 of them, were relentlessly picking on them, backing them into corners where they'd huddle together, never daring to turn around. I used to think there was safety in numbers for them, and maybe there is, but I've learned that 2 to 15 won't work. Maybe try to get about three more?

I think if I said “3 more Silkies” my husband would … fall over.

PS: I had Orphingtons on the list this year as I grow my flock, but I wasn’t able to find any among the Great Chick Wars of 2025. I went with Bielefelders and am already enjoying getting to know this breed of burly girls!
