Homosexual or heterosexual ducks?

I have 2 ducks, a Rouen and a Black Swedish. The Rouen is male and the Black Swedish is unknown (I assumed male). I noticed the Rouen was mounting the Black Swedish today. I know it is spring but would the ducks (lets assume they are both male) "mate". They are still in their coop as our pond is still iced over and we cannot let them out yet.

I have never seen any evidence of eggs (they are 11 months old).

Any experience with this? Insight?

Thanks!

Thanks for the information. The Rouen is def the dominant one!

Yep dominance thing! My six Rouens did the same thing and I have a Chinese goose who would mount my female ducks so I assumed it was a male until it laid an egg!

Funny thing happened today, I went into their pen and found a egg! Guess I have a female and male duck! Just wondering what the Rouen/Swedish duck baby would look like?

cdnley,
Just a reminder, considering you found that egg...you might want to update your signature so it doesn't continue to show that you own 2 drakes! lol So you found out your Swedish is a female??? Neat! Congrats!

One of my Indian Runners does this with one of our hen... only the one which is odd.
Of course it's hilarious, and he'll persist until the rooster comes looming.

I used to have what we affectionately referred to as my hemaphro-duckie. This Buff orpington was marked like a female and quacked like a female. Poor Pat got totally torn up by my male runners who would try to mount constantly. I couldn't figure out why "she" wouldn't lay eggs until one day we actually saw "her" penis after one of those wonderful 4 duck pileups.
