I have a 9 mo old Easter Egger. She just started honking out of the blue. She still bawks with the rest of my chickens but I’ve heard her honk 3 times in the last few days. She is eating, drinking, doesn’t seem to be wheezing, joining the pack. Her eyes look clear. There is no indication that I can see that she is sick. But, VND is in my area and I’ve never contended with a sick chicken before. Is this a normal sound or something to be concerned about?

I used to have an EE that honked when it was very hot outside.
If it's not hot where you live, it's possible she may have something small stuck in her trachea or esophagus. If it were something large, you'd see head shaking and neck scratching or coughing. If she's not doing this, I wouldnt worry about it just as long as she's eating, drinking and acting like a chicken should.

I have a salmon faverolles hen who sounds like a goose at times. If you could post a video of her making the noise, and post a link here, we could take a look. But she may be fine if she is acting normal and not gasping, but eating and drinking.

Gorgeous EE!!

My girls tend to 'honk' when they're too busy shoving food down their throat. Usually after a good drink they're fine... But as others said, if you could manage to get a video of the sound it could help us better to hear and see what's up. But if she seems healthy to you, and not lethargic or seemingly in distress, I'd say you're fine.
