I want a PVC hoop run that measures 6' wide and 6' tall but for the life of me, I can't seem to calculate the length of pipe I need to accomplish this. Are there any math wizzes out there who might be able to help? I was going to do the whole pi thing, but I cant figure out how to convert it to a semi circle. Thanks in advance!

If your hoops will be a perfect semicircle, you can use the formula for the circumference of a circle and divide the result in half. The formula is 2*pi*r. r = 3' so the circumference is 18.85' and half of that is 9.42'. I'd say buy 10' lengths of pipe for each hoop and cut them down if you need to. When I built a hoop coop, though, the hoops weren't a perfect semicircle. They kind of flattened out a bit on the sides. It still works just fine. :)

Thank you so much! Any words of wisdom from someone who has done a hoop house before?

Heh! Not really, we only just made ours this spring, so it's only been in use for a couple of months. Gotta see how it holds up before I can say it's good or not. What are you covering yours with? Is it permanent or mobile? Ours is smaller than yours, I think. It's a portable coop for growing out roosters inside a larger fenced area.

The idea is to make it portable so I can detach it from the coop and move both independently, sort of like a larger scale tractor. I want to cover it with some sort of hardware cloth and then be able to switch up what goes over that as needed: tarp if it will be hot and rainy, clear plastic in the winter to let in Sun but keep out snow, open if it's warm and breezy...

That sounds a lot like what we made. We covered it in hardware cloth, and I made a two-piece tarp that we can clip in place over it. That way we can shelter all of it, half of it, or none of it. We also gave it a hardware cloth bottom, so that's it's secure at night. We use it as a shelter/coop for the roosters destined for freezer camp, because we really only are growing roos out in warm weather so they don't need it to keep them warm or anything. Just need to keep the rain off. I'll try to take a photo sometime if you want.

That would be great. I'm excited about having it done, but nervous about messing up the construction.
