I live in Southwestern Pennsylvania; my name is Norma. I retired a few years ago and could not stand retirement, I now work 2- 3 days a week as an RN. I know that I will eventually need to stay home to care for my husband and I wanted more than gardening for something to keep me busy. I have a large suburban yard that is mostly hillside, I have raised bed gardening in part of the yard. I have a fenced in backyard which was recently made into 2 level areas. I had the back yard landscaped into 2 level areas and will put the coop there. I have been helping my son with his chickens, he has 6 hens. I also have 3 dogs: 2 toy poodles and 1 yorkie. The dogs are all smaller than my son's chickens, but I intend to keep them separated.

Sounds like you have a pretty good plan in place, Norma, and there's the bonus of having experience with your son's chickens.

This is a great community of supportive, generous folks who will be happy to help you with your chicken-raising adventures. Welcome to BYC, and let us know when you get your birds!
