So, I have a new little flock of chicks, 11 that are 6-9 weeks old. They are so cute and I've enjoyed watching them grow. One in particular seems to 'love' me, always hops up and tries to sit close to me when I was watching them over the brooder. Now that I have them out in the coop, this same one will actually hop up onto my shoulder when I've got the coop open to change water, etc. Well, it was a sight, but tonight I was out working around the coop, and she kept hoping from the coop to my shoulder, then back to the coop several times. I just thought it was cute so I let her, then all of a sudden I had 3 chickens doing the same thing! One was actually sitting on my head! Another, who must have good taste, decided to peck at my diamond earrings! Well, it was all cute til I looked on my arm and there was chicken poo... ugh... so the chicken games quickly ended and off to the shower for me. Anyone else have chickens that actually try to jump up on you? I don't plan on letting this become habit! It would be a pain as they get bigger, Im sure.

Careful with the earrings - more than one has been gobbled down by inquisitive chickens.

I have an Ancona hen who will have long conversations with me and if I listen to her long enough she will fly up on my shoulder. Sometimes she will move back and forth from one shoulder to the other and then she will lean way out and look back at me right in the face like she is trying to get my attention.

I have to say though that I've never been pooped on by an adult chicken, whether I picked them up or they jumped on me. I also have a very friendly polish 18 wk old chick I will pick up sometimes to cuddle and when it's time to go she WILL NOT let me put her down.
