Hey all,

I've been a lurker for a while, but this is my first post.

I've read conflicted opinions on when to start with poultry nipples. I just wanted to share that we picked up our second batch of baby chicks today (like two hours ago) and they are already drinking from the horizontal nipple waterers. We do plan on leaving a water dish available to them for a few more days (making sure they all know how to use the nipples), but we had the same exact experience with our first batch of chicks.

It likely doesn't matter too much, but our first batch were 2 barred rocks and a brown leghorn. The second batch are 4 cinnamon queens (RIRxRIW from Cackle Hatchery).

I think all of the opinions are just because they couldn't get the chicks to drink from the waterer. I don't think it is a problem at all that they are using it at a young age just so they know how to. Welcome to BYC!
