HORRIBLE PROLAPSED VENT!

Oh god...

Our previously three-legged chicken (she ain't so good lookin') now has a prolapsed vent. It's really awful. We've cleaned it to the best of our ability, but there's still a lot of blood on it. I put blu-kote around it, because it was so awful and bloody. Today, we put witch hazel on it, and I loaded up on KY jelly and tried to push it back in...it didn't work (she kept on pushing out), instead it just started to bleed again. It's sticking out by about an inch. It's her second vent, her first one is nice and healthy. She hasn't laid to date (we don't expect her to), but I think she might've been trying to lay an egg for the first time.
I'm wondering if it can heal even if it is poked out. We've contacted a vet, and they had no idea what to do. Now we're waiting for another vet to call us back, maybe give us some advice.

So is it possible for a prolapsed vent to just heal without being pushed back in? It doesn't seem to be sliding in, and I don't want to force it too much in case I seriously injure her. Other than her insides poking outside and a stub where her third leg was, she seems to be doing fine. Eating lots, drinking lots, enjoying time in our sunroom away from bullies.
Because she doesn't seem to be in pain, I don't want to 'mercy kill' her.

I've never had this problem, but I have seen where a lot of people use Preparation H. Use the search function (find "search" in the blue strip across the top of the page) and look for other discussions on prolapse. Someone recently had this problem and the hen got better.

I wonder if when you talk to the vet, if he'd sort of be able to "sew" it closed a bit so that it wouldn't come out...because that's the "extra" vent...I'm presuming that the normal vent is the one that's being used most...
