Horse peeps need help please

I would separate her from the goats.

My mare used to be extremely overprotective of a mini-mule that was in her pasture, chasing the other horses away from him. Mini-mule died of old age and she stopped chasing other horses. Once the goats are gone and your mare gets to know the gelding better, they'll work out dominance and become amicable.

To the original poster, yes, from your description your mare doesn't get along with geldings.

The poor gal, she's trying her very best to protect 'her babies' from the new horse. They're right near by, they're little, and therefore, they're babies, and they're hers. What a good mother she's being, and NO ONE appreciates it, LOL. As we talk for my mare, her main comment on life is, 'See what happens when you don't ask ME FIRST!?', LOL. We constantly have to sympathize with her as the neighbors don't get her opinion first, either, they just go out and move their livestock around without even asking her how she feels about it

. You just can't fight nature, best to find out what keeps peace and make it happen.

I would still have the vet check her, but...it could just be who she is.
