As I have mentioned, I have a gelding that can not be out with mares. EVER. It is scary crazy.
My friend has 2 geldings and a mare and we joke that the mare ruined the geldings. They go bonkers if they are seperated from her. All three horses were on a trail ride and the mare got so far in front that both geldings had panic attacks. I was on one of them and not too thrilled.
Hopefully you have sturdy fencing that Pal is behind and no barbed wire he might tangle in trying to get to her.
One of the tricks some of the old timers used years ago at the track with studs was to put vicks around their nostrils so they couldn't smell the mares in heat as well.
