Horse poop for chickens?

What age can I start letting my chickens peck at horse poop?

I'd give them access to a compost heap at a few days old, when they're eating/drinking well. Just thinking of the Vermont Compost Company's model (they raise chicks on the compost heaps alongside experienced hens who can show the chicks how it's done).
