ok...i doubt ne1 has and air conditioned coop...but what do we do...er, the chix....when its 95 degrees outside and they r panting...i put a fan on my babies yesterday...well not directly blowing on them...they r in the brooder still in my DH shed...heat lamp is off and windows open...ne ideas??...thnx 4 the info

Freeze some gallon water jugs. Put a couple where the hens can sit next to them, hang 1 or 2 in front of the fan, and put ice in their waterer. Those are the only things I can think of.
And, make sure they have plenty of shade.

Me too. Mine have absolutley no interest in fruit. Lettuce is the real treat. I've tried grapes, apple slices strawberries cantalope and whatever the green melon is. Nope don't want to have anything to do with it. I know they don't need it, but any other suggestions for treats, esp. cold treats?

Put a thermometer inside the coop, too. It will tell you just how hot it's getting in there. If it's much higher than the outdoor temperature, you'll want to add more ventilation to deal with the summer temperatures.

i open a bag of frozen veggies.. like succotash and they love it.. some like to wade in the water if it is shallow. some people put in misters to dampen the hens.. you can wet the sand if you have it in the run. some put bottles of frozen water in a shelter of sorts and the chickens climb in and rest against the bottles. we sprinkle them like rain with the hose.
