I've ordered 14 Silkie Chicks and am getting ready to build a house for them. I have one Silkie now about 1.5 yrs old and it took me a while to get her to go up into the top of my tractor pen when I first got her. (at the time I had 2 Silky hens). They both just wanted to sit on the ground and sleep.
I just completed a nice house up off of the ground for my Comets and Barred Rocks and getting ready to build a separate pen and house just for the Silkies and was wondering should I just build and house to protect them that would allow them to just sleep on the ground?
Tell me about your Silkies and the pen you have for them. I know with training they will eventually accept the fact they need to go up the shoot into the chicken house, but has anybody just improvised for them and made a place they can sleep on the ground?
