Housing chickens together

I am wondering what breeds may be housed together? I have RIR hens and would like to get a rooster eventually to breed them. Can I get a different breed and let them mate? Which are best? So many questions and wish there was a genetics section......

You can pretty much put any chickens together. You can breed any Roo to any hen - you'll just get mixed chicks.

The issues seem to arise when people try to add bantams with standard breeds. Often the little ones get pecked on and mistreated by the bigger birds. But, it too can work.

Also - chickens themselves have different personalities so, while one chicken may accept a new chicken, another one may not.
