Black head is more likely in damp wet climates then dry climates. Usually it passes from the poop of one bird to earth worms then to the next bird. If you don't have it currently in your area in the last two to three years then it's generally not a problem. You can find out about any recent outbreaks from your local Agricultural office.
If I lived in Oregon I would not mix them, If I lived in Arizona I would.
In Nebraska there has not been a record outbreak of Black head within the last ten years so we do. We are more likely to get an outbreak of West Nile then Black head here.
The bottom line is you have get the information and make your own decision.
