Hey guys, I've been a browser for quite some time, and I finally decided I wanted to join in on the conversation ( and chicken keeping! ) I'm about an hour out of Houston by the Woodlands. My family has kept wild chickens for years, they live further North in Montgomery.

A black hen lived in the woods next to the house we bought and we decided to give her a rooster, my love for Chickens spread from there. For the last 15 years we've had her bloodline living in our yard, but about 8 months ago something came into the yard and killed all of our hens. We have about 5 roosters left from her, but its sad to see something she started come to such an abrupt end. We never really bred them or ate the eggs, we just put some scratch on the ground for them and they lived in the trees.

Anyway guys, I'm super excited to get started on my own chicky-projects now that I have my own house! Oh and just a forewarning, I'm pretty long-winded (if you cant tell already!)

Welcome! Lots of good info on this site as you know. I lurked on here a while before posting too
