How and when can I sex chicks?

I paid for females, but a pal believes at least 50% of my chicks are male...

How can I tell, and at what age/size?

Depends on the breed; there are a very small number which can be told almost immediately. On average, 4-6 weeks is the earliest for most, and some you can't be sure of until closer to 3 months.
