Please forgive me for being naive, but how big are typical bantams? I have seen "regular" chickens like rocks and orpingtons but nothing considered fancy. I was thinking of getting some bantam silkies and cochins sometime in the near future and don't have a real idea of how big the birds get.

In terms of height, how tall can I expect them to grow?

To be more illustrative smallest bantams are about size of a pigeon (Serama , Dutch Bantams).

Largest bantams are generally miniaturised equivalents of standard breeds 36 oz rooster 32 oz hen as opposed to 7-9 lb rooster and 5-6 lb hen for RIR Orpingtons Rocks etc.

Silkies, Cochins fall somewhere between.

Bantam eggs vary considerably too.

example: New Hampshire Red Bantam egg 1.4 - 1.5 oz (standart large egg 2 oz)

Dutch, Rosecombs Bantam eggs around 1 oz

Very informative site for breeds, weights, number of eggs per year:
