How big should RIR eggs be?

My kids and I are new to chickens. We have a small flock of 10 chickens. 3 RIR's and 7 barred rocks. The RIR's are 5 months old and we got our first egg today. It's smaller than I thought it would be. Is it small because its the chickens first egg?

it will take them a month or two to get up to full size eggs. Yes, the first ones are smaller Aren't they cute? Enjoy them while you can because they are the only small ones you will get. Once they become full size, they don't decrease.

They start out small, then get bigger as the pullets mature.

Ours are really small too- we have SLW and BRs an one EEer.... We did already get a double tho- it was not a huge egg- but my daughter ran in and said "We got a double!" I said "no way- that egg is not big enough" so she ran in and cracked it and- guess who was right- the 6 year old!!! lol....

They will get bigger!
