Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens states:

Leghorn type layers: 12' wide, 14" high, 12" deep

Heavier breeds: 14" wide, 14" high, 12" deep

Bantams: 10" wide, 12" high, 10" deep

Hope this helps!

thanks, one more question...which catagorey do my chickens fall into?

I have 1 australorp
1 plymouth rock
1 delaware
2 Buff Orpington's and a Red Star

I'm sure someone else will give you more info, but your Australorp and Buff Orps are definitely "heavy" chickens.

I gotta get bigger boxes for my girls ... they've always been SO good to lay only in the boxes, but they aren't big enough and they do complain. Maybe I'll even get more eggs when I make/buy larger boxes.

Those wooden drawers sure are CUTE though. But chickens don't care about cute ...
