I have a pair of amaraucana chickens and I was wondering how I could tell the two apart. I left my camera in a friends car so I won't have any pictures today, but I was just wondering if there were any dead giveaways on the gender. My birds are 8 weeks old, decent sized in comparison to the others, they have no comb, one of them has a little black beard type thing, the other doesn't, or it's a goldish color and not black. Will amaraucana chickens even grow combs? This is my first round with chickens.

Those sound like Easter Eggers. Ameraucanas don't come in multicolors, so if you have a gold one with a black beard, it's an EE. There are several threads in this forum about sexing EE's. I have a few myself and love them! Ameraucanas and most EE's have pea combs. If your 8 week olds still have completely flat yellow combs, they are most likely girls. Boys have red 3 rowed combs by this age.
