How can you prevent hens getting eggbound

I've been reading the topics posted here, so I'll hopefully know what to do incase of an emergency or illness. I've seen quite a few on them getting eggbound. Can this be prevented? If so how? Thanks for the info

Hello Dee Dee!
The most important thing you can do is make sure they have a well balanced diet with the apropriate amount of CALCIUM! Calcium deficiency is usually the most common cause of egg binding.
Dont stress too much over it! I have been raising chickens for about 10 years now and only had maybe two or three egg binding problems, and only one I think resulted in death. It is treatable!
