Hello everyone!!
I was wondering how much feed is enough for my babies outside?
I currently only have two right now, so their only getting about a cup?
I'm not exactly measuring it out, but will soon add a few more to my flock, so I wanted to know how much feed will sustain my flock while being careful to not go overboard to not waste.
Thank you!!💜

Chickens should have 24/7 access to free eat feed from a feeder.

I, personally, do not free feed my adult chickens. But I always have food out all of the time for chicks until they start laying and I switch to pellets. I suggest you free feed your babies at least until they are older, but as said above, many free feed their adult chickens as well.

You definitely do not have to worry about chicks over eating, but if you are worried about waste that is a good concern. There are some nice tricks, like elevating feeders, putting feeders in a bigger dish to catch food, or there are some different style feeders that are supposed to minimize waste. They have pvc pipes that chickens have to reach their heads into eat, it is supposed to prevent chickens scraping or dumping feed out with their beaks.

Yes, I'm hopefully going to follow through on the pvc pipe idea for no spills, one of my chicks just loves making a mess including her feet in the dish 😄
Makes me a little frustrated but I know she's just getting used to her new long legs she's growing out.

I honestly hate chicks🤣 it’s like every morning they think “what can I do today that will either make her life miserable or get myself killed?!” Once the get older they are much nicer

For real, they do it on purpose!! LOL
But it does get better once their older, which brings joy to my mornings 😊

But if you don't mind, I just a have a little question.
I just measured my run that I'm landscaping for my chicks and it's 7ft wide and 16ft long and I looked it up that you multiple to see what you get, and my total sq ft was 112.
Is that enough for maybe 5-7 chickens?
