How cold hearty are Speckled Sussex?

Two summers ago, my speckled sussex Houdina dropped dead in her run.

She was fine one minute while my dad was feeding, he turned around to scatter some scratch on the ground and he turned back around and she was dead where he saw her last.

No explanations or anything for it.

My SS hens have been fine with our winters here, also.

A friend has a SS and she lived to be OLD. They are hardy in the winter.
