How cold is too cold for chickens?

Yeah, I'm a newbie, so I may be wording things wrong. I have 8 hens, and they travel freely between the hoop house and a shed. The two structures are adjacent to each other with no barrier between them. In the shed are the 3 nesting boxes, feeder, and several roosts. The hoop house is just an area for them to run around and it also has the waterer in it.

OK gotcha now! The hoop house part would be the "run" as I know it. You probably don't even need to have that covered with plastic, if they can go into the shed when they need to they'll be fine.
I do use hay bales on one side of my coop (shed) if I can get some cheapies, cause that side is colder in winter - and the chickens do love to dig in and scratch the hay!

Situate this so the door faces the south. put a tarp on the north end and over half of the coop make sure it is secure. If you live south of the red river this should be fine.
