How could this happen

I bought 3 rouen ducks a couple of years ago from a hatchery, one drake & two hens. I've been hatching the eggs & getting beautiful little rouens for some time. I just hatched a clutch & one of the babies has an afro, almost like its tufted. How can this happen when I have no tufted ducks & my rouens are supposed to be pure. I've heard that all mule or crossbreed ducks are only good to eat because they are infertile, is this true?

it could be in the genetics . One of their great great grandparents(or great great GRANDUCKS lol) could of been crested and its just showing uo now ?
