Hi! My name is Janice and I am living in Grosse Ile, MI. It's a small island that is really animal friendly. I just got my first chickens ever. My first batch is about 6 weeks old. I had several roosters that I had to get rid of, so of course I had to get more! I currently have 11. I am mostly guessing, but I have 2 red kinds (I thought they were RIR or NHR, but I actually think they are Isa Browns) 2 barred rocks, 2 lacewing somethings, one EE and 4 silkies. They are so awesome! I love just sitting near their brooder and watching them do their thing. My uncle is building me a coop, so hopefully the older ones will be out there next week. The second batch is only about 3 weeks, so I want them to have a few more weeks with the heat lamp. I am still working out a run design. I have a small one that will work for a while, but eventually be way to small. Someone is giving me a 14x7x6 dog kennel, so that may work. This is like the coolest thing I have done in a while and cannot wait to get them outside. My only wish is that I could add a goat!
