How do ducks like to nest?

I have a White Pekin and a Khaki Cambell that are both just finishing their first molting season. They are both females and they are extremely talkative. I don't know when ducks usually start laying eggs but I want to be ready. The problem, however, is that I do not know how they like to nest, what conditions they like to nest in, and how I'll know when they are ready to start laying. I live right beside the National Forest in SW Colorado. I do not have any neighbors and I the closest water supply to my house is a three foot wide dogie pool that both the ducks invade regularly. Are there any suggestions on what kind of nest box they prefer, if any? (P.S. If you can please post a picture of your solution. Thank you!)

My ducks like a dark whole to hide in or under a building.But i have made a box 16x16x36 long with out a bottom. Then put straw in the far end and hope for the best It works most times But some ladies just like to make all on there own

My Runners prefer to make their own nest in a corner. I have attached a 2'x2' plywood piece perpendicularly to the wall of the night shelter to provide two additional corners. They love it. I just provide enough bedding for them to build the nest.
