How do i figure out fertile eggs?

I am about to start a second hatch, after my first was a disaster, I believe that most of my eggs were not fertile, I got them from my own hens, kept them with the point side down, and they were only 3 days old, so I thought they would hatch, but got 12 out of the 42, and 6 of them are alive. So now my question is: How do I figure out which eggs from my own flock are fertile?

Unfortunately the only way to tell if a fresh egg is fertile is to crack it open and look for the little white "bullseye" on the yolk. What I suggest you do is separate your roo(s) with a handful of hens for a few days and collect those eggs for incubation. If your roos are anything like mine those eggs will be fertile
