How do I free range my ducks in my yard?

I have 5 ducks on my homestead, and we're surrounded mostly by trees. They are about a year and half old, and I was wondering wheater I could still teach them to free range. They already know to go to bed when I call them, but I've not tried free ranging during the day. Is it safe around trees, and woods to let them free range? And what predators will attack them during the day, If they have any? I really would appreciate some help.

Yes you definitely can!

However if not supervised any predator could get them, hawks, weasels, foxes ect could all kill a duck.
I usually have my dog outside, and check on them every hour or so. I have not had ANY predators attempt to get them ever so it might work. Thank you! Any tips?

House cats are the most common day time predator , where do you live it mainly depends on the area . Firstly try to let one out in your yard and let it explore with your supervision , then try to catch or call back the duck . If it doesn’t come back easily I would try every day with each duck to let it free range then catch it until you feel they can be on there own. I have 7 chickens which love to free range but I have all of my garden fenced off and secured and I do tend to stay outside with them when they are outside as we have a few new members of the flock . This is from what I’ve learned previously and may not work for you, just a suggestion

If you let them free-range, expect some losses, it will happen eventually. Maybe mow the grass so the ducks can see any incoming predator, you can also try trapping at night to get rid of some of the pests in your area too.

There are some house cats, but my dog won't allow it! They usually have to be herded back into the coop during the day, but at dawn I can usually call them into their coop. I will try this though, thank you!

These ducks are like pets to me, but I am outside most of the day, and I haven't really seen many predators. My grass is always mowed, and my dog will anything before it happens. It seems like i've got everything set pretty much to start out, thank you!

If they have any favourite treats they recognise the sound of like my chickens instantly run to me if they hear any sort of plastic rustle as they love mealworms which come in a bag!

They love any kind of veggies and leaves, so I can try to treat train them. Thanks! If all goes well, I can update you guys!
