How do I help my pet CornishX lose weight?!?!

I also have a meat chicken, her name is Lucky, she is about 8-9 months old. She is so fat she can’t hardly walk. I’ve got her by herself so she don’t have full access to the other chickens food. I googled how to make a chicken loose weight, it said 16% protein and low calories. I have given her this food and controlled how much she eats a day for about two weeks, she still can’t hardly walk. I’m not sure if she’s losing any weight. She is the best chicken that I have very sweet. I don’t know what else to do for her to help her lose weight. She just can’t hardly walk around at all other than that she seems healthy.

I own a few CX hens that are 9 months old. I feed them 100 grams of layer feed per bird in the morning and 70 grams in the evening. Normally they have free access to a run so they can forage grass and insects. Even with just giving them that amount of food they still were gaining weight slowly. They are around 5 kilo's now and it does seem stabilized at the moment. The thing is beyond just straight up starvation it is probably nearly impossible to make them lose weight when they can barely walk. With this type of chicken it's very much a case of you have to prevent it, cause once it happens it's already too late.

That being said. You should weigh her weekly to keep track of her weight and see if she is losing or gaining it. And maybe look into feeding vegetables and seeds which keep her occupied and more filled up while not gaining weight.

Thank you for the information. I hate I probably waited to late for her. I’ve never had chickens before don’t know what I’m doing. I will weigh her and see if she is still gaining or loosing any. I hope it’s not to late for her

I shouldn't comment. You will not like what I am going to say. I happen to like the temperament of Cornish X chickens. They are funny and quirky and a lot of fun to have around. They have wonderful personalities, but they are not suitable as pets because of their short lifespan. It is true you can prolong their life by restricting their feed and making them exercise but I think it is inhumane to do so. Who wants to be hungry all the time and forced to exercise? Anybody?
