We rescued an egg out of the coop this afternoon that the momma abandoned. The egg was already pipped with a good-sized hole. We didn't see much movement and the egg was cold, but s/he started poking its beak through after it got warmed up in the incubator. It's been about 5 hours and it has not started zipping, but continues to chirp and poke the end of its little beak through the hole. I do not know how long it was without its mother in the coop, but the egg was no longer warm. Should we assist at some point? Thank you.

Get a wet Q tip and wet the membrane, you can gently peel a small hole in the membrane if you want to
This is what it looks like. Should I still do that?

When my eggs were hatching some were shrink wrapped and I took them out and under the sink and let 1-3 drops of water in (NOT enough to drown it, just wet it) then put it back into the incubator, make sure the humidity is as high as you possibly can

Okay, I dripped about 2 qtip drops in there, and added a wet paper towel.5 minutes later, the hole is cracking open bigger!!
