How do i raise backyard chickens?

Im sure this is a pretty common question asked on this forum, but im very very new to the chicken world. We have just begun construction on the coop, but i really need to know the basics of keeping chickens. How do i keep them from leaving my yard? How do i keep the smell at bay, an keep them from being stressed out? Anything would help me out, thanks!

Hi, Mick, welcome to BYC. Click on the 'Learning Center' at the top of the page. Then go to the forums. Search, read, plan and you will be successful. Poultry raising/keeping is far more common sense than 'rocket science'.

Yep, the Learning Center is the best place to start. And if you can't find what you need there, try the Search box in the upper left part of any screen. Or ask, never worry about asking a question, everyone was new at some point. You'll also learn a lot just by spending time with your chickens and watching them. That's easy to do...they are comical, interesting and there's always something new to learn about them.
