This was laid by my indoor 1 1/2 year old English Blue Bantam hen Sweet pea. (The "egg" not the bottle top

). We've been having egg problems since she went broody in May '13. I wasn't able to break her brood so in June, I gave her a fertile egg from my outside pair. She was a fabulous mother, but her eggs have not been right since she started laying again in August '13.

Generally, weekly I find half a shell and a yolk. Sometimes the shell is soft and curled. Rarely are the eggs in tacked. If it is in tacked the shell is soft and ply-able and almost see through. She laid an egg similar to this back in Feb. The vet suggested a round of tetracycline. During those 14 days, her eggs were in tacked, the shells were hard but so porous that they were rough to the touch. As soon as the tetracycline was over the eggs returned back.

Her "egg" behavior is different as well. Pre Brood, she was vocal and actively looking for a place to lay. Post Brood, she is quiet, wings down, doesn't move, head down. When I see this I know she will lay a bad egg within 12 hrs. But this one, she held on to for two days. I started her on the tetracycline again.

Here is what I do to try to fix this....
Feed: Purina Flock Raiser, I add 3% calcium, grit, omega 3
Water: Vitamin & Electrolyte for extra vitamin D and Potassium
Sunlight: at least 10 hours daily, medical grade sun lamp during winter months (that one is for both of us

)
Increasing her calcium did not effect the eggs and increased the frequency of nail and beck trimming.
Adding egg shell to her feed, she wouldn't eat.

Now she is having problems with her crop. That I know how to fix...mushy food.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm tapped out and I want my little girl to have a happy and healthy life. Thanks so much in advance!
