Hi There,
I am new to this and was all set to get started on my coop and run. I live in a small town, surrounded by agriculture. My husband contacted the local bylaw officer and apparently we are not allowed to have backyard chickens :( Even though the CITY right beside us allows it.

I have gone over the website bylaws listed and I can't see anything that say about chickens being considered livestock and livestock not being allowed in town.

SOOOO.....how do i go about making or adjusting bylaws? Do i have to talk to the bylaw officer (who, with our small town, only works part time) or do i have to go to the council?
Thanks in Advance
Lisa

Hi Lisa!
I'm in Rockwood, and am wondering how to get this by-law changed as well! any luck? I know Guelph can have chickens... it seems really weird that we cant!

Hi there,
I was thinking about going to the city in the spring. We are possibly moving to Erin tho.....

Hi Lisa,

Just wondering if you ever pursued this?

I just looked at the GET website and I'm deeply disappointed!

Unfortunately, the posters in this thread were last seen in 2013, 2014 here on BYC, @RachelRCR - they aren't likely to respond. I suspect their efforts came to naught - changing statutes is often a slow and frustrating process.

To the extent that it might help, here is some advice on seeking revision of statutes
