I would like to make our own chic starter and feed .

is it very complicated ? I know people use to just throw scraps to them but were their chickens healhy and productive as feed bag fed ?

Any recipes would be appreciated .

Thanks for link . We are older people so we need all the shortcuts and but at same time want to raise healthy birds .

What they put in our food I wouldn't want to feed to my animals much less eat myself but what choice do we have unless we set up for it .

So I can imagine what goes into animal feeds. I wish i could make dog food too . So far we only make about 1/3 of out dogs food because they are bg dogs .

i know the feeling with dog food. I tried it for a month and ended up spending more money and exhausting myself trying to make just enough dog food for my mixed beagle/saint bernanrd.

I can't imagine a beagal St bernard but i bet thats big dog . Ours '3' are all under a seventy pounds .

At our age the only reason we'd even think of taking care of animals is security and food because we fall in love with them and besides the vet cost more than my dr. visit .

So we want chickens for eggs that are safer than ones in stores now and also on some farms . I've seen some chicken pens that looked like a good place to hatch more than chics .

I thought most chick started was ground up grain, the non-medicated stuff atleast...

You can always try buying locally milled feeds if you're not set up for it. They'll grind the locally grown grains, then mix in vitamins and minerals.

Thats what I thought too until I read what some were putting into the feed .

Not trying to get politicle at all , but fact is the feed companys are in it for the money not the health of our food supply .

I just would like to make as much of our own as possible . But if we can't do that at least we know our chickens are treated good and clean .
