How do you decide which one??

I have a dillema of sorts. I have 6 roosters in one house. They are all young and are just now getting their manhood going on. My question is which do you keep? I know people say its all about personality, but they really are all the same as that goes. At this point I have one that is showing dominance over the others,..would he be the best bet? He is a good looking barred rock roo,...do they generally get mean? Any opinions would be great to help me decide,...thanks!

When they get older, you'll see who the snotty boys are. For your better interest, though, I'd take the nicest one. If a few are nice, look for the onces that do best with the hens. If you still have a few to choose from, get into more specific things like the ones that can tolerate the presence of new chicks, most vocal (for protecting his flock) and other traits that are favorable.

Dominance is a potential trait for all roosters. Bare in mind that it doesn't always make them 'best' or even 'worst'. I had a rooster who was the nicest one and very good to his hens. He was the lowest in the pecking order, and therefore, not corrupted by greed and power. So he used his energy in other ways.

If a rooster has no competition with other roosters, they will eventually become dominant.
