Just curious --- If you keep chickens, but cannot stand to butcher one and eat it, how do you manage to eat chicken??? Nuggets, lunchmeat, breast tenders, buffalo wings, KFC, anything? I'm not trying to get a debate started about vegan or whatever (to each his own), I'm just genuinely curious what goes through your mind when you bite into a drumstick that you didn't raise? Or even if you did? Discuss!

I think part of it is that you don't know the bird. Call it what you will, ignorance or peaceful oblivion, but I think that's what it is. For me at least, it helps. I eat my boys, but I find it easier time and emotionally to go to the store still for chicken

Because my chickens are my children and I’d never harm my kids. The chicken I get from the store? I don’t know that bird, I’m not attached to it so I don’t really care. Just like you’d never eat your beloved cat or dog I’d never eat my chickens. Unlike the chickens from the store mine are for my entertainment and to provide me eggs. And when they get old? They live out a happy retirement with all the treats and love they want

Eh. As much as I enjoy our girls, I have always made the "pet vs food" distinction. Every one of us has a different line on this, and in reality none of them are wrong from our own point of view. You do you, and remember someone else is doing the same.
