I am just curious, I had never heard of them hatching standing up until I came to BYC. Never actually thought about it.

I have been standing them up in egg cartons I cut up just for hatching, but I I am thinking of lying them down instead.

I find the egg cartons take too much room once the hatching starts and I am thinking lying down the other chicks will push and roll the eggs around stimulating those that are lazy hatchers.

I am curious as to what others do and why..

Thanks

I lay mine down, but I remove my chicks at hatch preventing them form playing soccer with the other eggs. I have not hatched upright yet. I know a few people who do and prefer it.

For me it depends on the eggs. Local eggs and great looking shipped eggs I'll lie down, but any shipped eggs where I'm not happy with their progress I hatch standing up.
