yes, be careful of facial features. for some reason, shinny objects are a BIG attractant to the chicks and some adult birds. i have taught most of mine to ignore my glasses but i found some will forget and need a reminder bop on the beak to keep away when they start showing interest in my glasses because that means they are seeing my eyes as something to pick at if they could get to them.
i pick up my chicks and adults up just like a parrot on my hand or fingers. i teach them the 'up' command and most will listen to it right away, some need a repeat. but i pet them on the chest and give a scratch around the head and the back for my girls that allow me to. my favs seem to enjoy this and will fall asleep if they are relaxed enough. they also look at it as a way to get away from the boys and have someone that is gentile on them give them a massage!
eta: i also let the chicks check out my hand to see who is willing to just jump into it and be lifted out of the pen. those are the ones that will readily come to you every time!
