around here they are legerns

I follow the wisdom of Warner Brothers.

It's Foghorn Leg--Horn.

"Are ya listening boy? I say, are you listening. (That) boy is about as sharp as a cue ball" -- Foghorn Leghorn

The folks that I've been around in my life that actually knows what a "Leghorn" is (not cartoon characters) have always pronounced it "Leggern."

Which is closer to "Ligurian", the area where the breed is thought to have orginated from, than "Leg-horn."

Having lived in the South my whole life I've always heard it pronounced leggern.

I have caught myself saying it both ways. I think it's Leg Horn, but I say Legern when I am talking about them to my husband. Then again I grew up in the city and moved to the country, I have also caught my self saying waaash instead of wash.

OT - I spell/pronounce wash with an R as in warsh.
I moved to Arkansas from NC. It drives my DH bonkers that I say arn (iron) tar (tire) and far (fire). As in, I needed a tar arn to get my stuff out of the car after it caught far.
