My husband-darn yankee- teased me for not saying the word, our, like he does. He says ow-er, I say our just like I say the word, are. He and my next door neighbor say that I say the word like a pirate.

They are both yankees though.

So how do you say the word, our.

I can't make the word, dog and log rhyme either.

You should hear the arguments in our house! I speak with an almost british accent, I grew up in South Africa. My hubby grew up here in the USofA.......

Even my kids say I talk funny - and then they start asking me to say things:

"Mommy, say Ginger!"
"Mommy, say Grass"

Its never ending, I keep telling them THEY talk funny - and it cracks them up!

It sounds just like the word 'Hours' when it comes out of my mouth most of the time, but if I'm speaking quickly and it's not a stressed word in the sentence it may sound like 'Are.' That's rare, however, as it sounds wrong to me.

I grew up in Arizona and Kansas, so I'd hardly say I'm a Yankee...I wonder where in the country it sounds like each?

Now I am curious, how do you say, Ginger? I bet that your accent is beautiful.

Well myself I say it and it sounds like "are".
Seems when you say it "proper", it sounds as if
you are stating the "hour" of the day.
Of course I am from the south so that might make
a difference.

Yankees! Whatcha gonna do with them?!? (Just kiddin' folks!

I pronounce it "ar". I also get the wrinkles out of ar clothes with an arn, have four tars on my car, like to sit by a nice warm far in the wintertime.

Married to a farm boy that is half arkie and half coon-(something you can't say on BYC). He says he's gonna be "out of pocket" for awhile. Why can't he just say he's gonna be busy??

I was only teasing about the Yankee part. LoL But I am curious also as to how the word, our, is pronounced in different areas.

When I was in Iowa, I heard the word creek called a, crick. I say, creek with a long e not a short, i.
