help I have a very mean rooster. my mom gave him one week or he ends up as dinner. I need your help.

Spraying with a hose when he attacks is supposed to help. Welcome to BYC!

I don't want him to die and my mom won't allow the hose.

I had an 'aggressive' rooster a while back, thankfully he was only a bantam so wasn't very scary and his 'attacks' were more entertaining than scary. He only ever attacked me once but would go for my mother all the time (very funny). I think it's because she was scared of him, it might sound daft but you need to tell em who's boss, haha, my boy went for me and i whipped him up and held him until he chilled out, i then sat him back down and he began flapping about so again i held him until he was calm before letting him walk away. Never went for me again, maybe it's because i embarrassed him in front of his lady friends haha! I've heard of people holding them upside down by the legs, on their backs, every way under the sun, but that can't be very nice for the wee soul. Perhaps try taking him away from his ladies for a while or something? Don't know how friendly your hens are but maybe try feeding him by hand (possibly wear gloves haha)? All of mine were raised from chicks so were pretty tame, my boy just got too big for his rather small bantam boots! Hopefully you can get him tamed before the pot! Good luck!

how will that help.

You will present yourself as an easy target not worth the effort. He will not get psychological reward of dominating you and he will see that even though you are in his realm, you are nonetheless not a threat. I like my males to perceive me as something that moves but is otherwise inanimate like a lawnmower. I am an animal lover as well but find it easy to be among birds if they do not perceive me as a part of the pecking order.

I've got an aggressive rooster. But, it's natural, he's just protecting his hens. So, two part strategy: One, I don't threaten the hens. Two, I carry a shepherds crook with me in the poultry yard. He seems to notice and respect the crook. He's a great rooster otherwise so I'm going to try to work it out with him.
