How do you tell if an egg is fertile?

I am just wondering, how do you tell if an egg is fertile by breaking it? How about without breaking it?

Without breaking it, you incubate the egg. If it develops it is fertile.

Unless you break it, you cannot tell without starting the incubation process and candling the egg. if you break it, there will be a white spot on the yolk that looks like a bullseye...that means fertile.
