I mean how do you keep it straight where the newest and oldest eggs are? Ours are always getting mixed up.

My plan was to put the newest on the bottom shelf and move eggs up the shelves as new eggs take over the bottom shelves. So i planned to take eggs from the top shelf to use.
It looks good on paper, but i end up in a hurry and just put them where they fit. Then i forget what was what

I end up cooking a ton of eggs for the chickens and start over. Even the oldest eggs in my fridge are fresher than the stores eggs. But i like to re-group

We put a sticker with a date on the end of the cartons. Ours say 'best by __________'. We date them 30 days from the day they were laid. We sell at farmers markets so 'best by' works for us....but you could just put the date of lay.

I'm with lurky. We put the new ones on the bottom shelf, then use them off the top. Works like a charm.

In addition we put eggs that are for sale (i.e the good looking, big ones) in styrofoam cartons. Anything that's really dirty or cracked or too small gets put into a paperboard carton. Eggs in the paper carton get eaten by the people or the animals in our family.

I mark the bottom of the carton with the date of lay. I always put the older eggs on top as I sell my eggs and usually the customers will grab the top cartons.

I date anything I'm selling otherwise I don't pay attention. Every few months I clean out the fridge by feeding out the known oldest eggs to the pets and giving away all others but the latest carton.
